Lynne Ramsay

Lynne Ramsay (born December 5, 1969 in Glasgow ) is a multi-award-winning Scottish film director and screenwriter .

Life

After initially wanting to be a photographer, Ramsay studied camera and directing at the renowned National Film and Television School in Beaconsfield near London. Her graduation film Small Deaths was shown at the Cannes Film Festival in 1996 and was awarded the Jury Prize.

In 1999, Ramsay made his feature film debut Ratcatcher , the portrait of a twelve-year-old boy who grew up in a working-class district of Glasgow in the 1970s. The award-winning film Morvern Callar with Samantha Morton in the lead role followed three years later .

Her third feature film, We Need to Talk About Kevin, about a teenage rampage based on the novel of the same name by Lionel Shriver , competed for the Palme d'Or at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival . Tilda Swinton can be seen in the lead role , who received the European Film Award for her convincing portrayal of a traumatized mother and was nominated for a Golden Globe .

Two years later, Ramsay was appointed to the jury for the 66th edition of the Cannes Film Festival in 2013 and in 2015 to the jury of the 72nd Venice International Film Festival .
