Louis of France, Count of Évreux (* May 1276 , † May 19, 1319 in Paris ) was the third son of the French King Philip III. with his second wife Maria von Brabant . He was the half-brother of King Philip IV and Charles of Valois , the founder of the House of Valois .

In 1298 Philip IV gave him the counties of Évreux , Étampes , Beaumont-le-Roger , Meulan and Gien as Paragium . In 1316 he also got the county of Longueville . In January 1317 he was appointed Count of Évreux and thus Peer of France .

Unlike most of his contemporaries, he was a peace-loving nobleman. In diplomatic missions he defended the rights of the king against the church and in particular supported his half-brother Philip IV in his fight against Pope Boniface VIII (1294-1303). He took part in the campaigns in Flanders in 1297, 1304 and 1315 .

At the beginning of 1301 he married Margarete von Artois (* probably 1285, † April 24, 1311), mistress of Brie-Comte-Robert , the sister of Count Robert III. with whom he had five children:

  1. Maria (* 1303; † October 31, 1335), ⚭ 1311 Johann III. Duke of Brabant
  2. Philip III (* 1305; † 1343), King of Navarre ( de iure uxoris ) ⚭ Joanna II. Queen of Navarre .
  3. Karl von Évreux (* 1306; † 1336), Count of Étampes , ⚭ Maria de la Cerda, mistress of Lunel , daughter of Ferdinand II. De la Cerda .
  4. Margarete (* 1307; † 1350), ⚭ 1325 William II. Count of Auvergne ( House of Auvergne )
  5. Johanna von Evreux (* 1310; † 1371), ⚭ Charles IV. King of France

Ludwig von Évreux is the progenitor of the House of France-Évreux . He was buried in Saint-Jacques in Paris .
