from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wilhelm XII. (Guillaume XII.), According to another count of the XI. or XIII. the name († August 6, 1332 in Vic-le-Comte ) was Count of Auvergne and Boulogne . He was the only son of Count Robert VII from his marriage to Blanche of Clermont . In 1325 he succeeded his father.

In the same year he married Margarete von Évreux († 1350) daughter of Ludwig , Count of Évreux , and thus niece of King Philip IV. The couple had two children:

In addition, he had an illegitimate son of an unknown woman who is attested in 1321 as Baudrin I. d'Auvergne, Lord of Sarlant .

Wilhelm XII. was the first Count or Vice Count of Auvergne of his family, i.e. for about 500 years, who had no legitimate sons at his death. Before the half-brothers from his father's second marriage, his daughter Johanna inherited the Auvergne and Boulogne. It was only when Johanna had no offspring when she died that the title and land were bequeathed to Wilhelm's half-brothers, with the second eldest, Count Johann von Montfort , taking over the rule, while the eldest, Guy de Boulogne , the former Archbishop of Lyon and current cardinal , was not available.
