Guy de Boulogne (* 1313 attested; † November 25, 1373 in Lleida ) was Archbishop of Lyon and Cardinal .

Life

Guy de Boulogne was a son of Robert VII , Count of Auvergne and Boulogne and Maria of Flanders. He embarked on a spiritual career and became canon in Reims , in 1323 canon in Amiens . He received a doctorate in civil law and in 1340 became archdeacon of Thérouanne and archbishop of Lyon and Primate of Gaul. He restored the archbishop's legal prerogatives after he had them from King Philip VI. had received back, which also put an end to the interventions of the royal officials. In 1342 he was from Clement VI. created cardinal, resigned as archbishop in this context and received the Roman titular church of Santa Cecilia . 1350 to Cardinal Bishop of Porto and Santa Rufina collected and in 1352 the dean of Saint-Martin de Tours was Cardinal de Boulogne also 1364-1373 Cardinal Dean .

Guy de Boulogne was one of Popes Clement VI's confidants. and Innocent VI. He was the papal legate in Hungary and Austria with the task of negotiating peace with the partisans of Ludwig of Bavaria , as well as the understanding between King Ludwig I of Hungary and Queen Joan I of Naples after the murder of Johanna's husband Andreas of Hungary ( 1349) to restore. As a legate in Italy, he organized the jubilee year 1350 and chaired the Provincial Synod of Padua, where questions of ecclesiastical discipline and the relationship between clergy and believers were discussed.

He returned to France as a legate to broker the peace between King John II and Charles II of Navarre . As a legate in Castile , he tried to prevent the invasion of Aragon in 1359. On this trip he was accompanied by Jean de la Grange , who himself became a cardinal in 1375. Despite his diplomatic skills, Guy de Boulogne was only successful in this last mission, as he approached the problems too naively in Hungary and in France was partially biased by his relatives with King John II.

He died on another diplomatic trip in Spain and was buried in the Abbey of Vauluisant (another name for Le Bouchet , now part of Manzat ).
