The diocese of Porto-Santa Rufina ( Latin Dioecesis Portuensis-Sanctae Rufinae , Italian Diocesi suburbicaria di Porto-Santa Rufina ) is a suburbicarian diocese and belongs to the ecclesiastical province of Rome . It is northwest of the diocese of Rome. It includes the municipalities of Fiumicino , Cerveteri , Ladispoli , Santa Marinella , Riano , Castelnuovo di Porto and large parts of the Roman Municipio XI , XII , XIII , XIV and XV (outside the Roman motorway ring ). The diocese has 55 parishes, which are divided into 5 decants.
history
The diocese was created in 1119 by the union of the Lazio lying dioceses Porto and Santa Rufina (now the Roman district of Selva Candida ) and has since been under the name "Porto and Santa Rufina", from 30 September 1986, the current name of Porto-Santa Rufina led.
The diocese of Porto, named after the ancient port city of Portus Romae in the vicinity of Rome , was founded in the 3rd century .
cathedral
The cathedral Sacri Cuori di Gesù e Maria in the Roman district of La Storta has been the episcopal church since 1950 . Previously it was the present-day Santi Ippolito e Lucia co- cathedral in Borgo di Porto.
