Brie-Comte-Robert is a French municipality with 17,817 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Seine-et-Marne in the region Ile-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Torcy and since the French cantons were redesigned in 2015 to the canton of Combs-la-Ville .

location

The community is located on the edge of the Plateau de la Brie about 25 kilometers southeast of Paris and is surrounded by the river Yerres to the south .

history

Brie-Comte-Robert is the historic capital of the region and county of Brie . In the 12th century, the city was owned by Count Robert I de Dreux , brother of the French King Louis VII. He fortified the city to make a possible attack on Paris more difficult.

Until the French cantons were redesigned in 2015, Brie-Comte-Robert was the main town ( chief lieu ) of the canton of the same name , to which twelve municipalities belonged.
