Personalities

The aviation pioneer Clément Ader carried out experiments with a self-built flying machine here in 1890, but these were unsuccessful.

The place is best known as the birthplace of Maurice Papon (1910-2007). Despite his function in the Vichy regime in the post-war period, he was a senior civil servant, police prefect of Paris and a minister before he was charged and convicted of his involvement in the deportation of Jews. From 1955 to 1958 he was mayor of his hometown.
