Population development
Bussy-Saint-Georges is a rapidly growing city, the population of which increased from 535 in 1985 to 18,772 in 2006. This was done by creating spacious housing estates and business parks (including the Gustave Eiffel district ), which particularly attracted citizens from the greater Paris area. This development is not yet complete, a further increase in the number of inhabitants is expected. This rapid population development is related to the sharp rise in property prices in Paris and the surrounding area. Many young middle-class families are forced to move away from the city in order to still be able to afford a home. The city is one of the municipalities with the highest per capita debt in France. Since mostly large families live in Bussy, the costs for crèches and kindergartens devour almost two thirds of the municipal funds.
