Jean-Antoine-Théodore Giroust (born November 10, 1753 in Bussy-Saint-Georges , † July 9, 1817 in Mitry-Mory ) was a French painter.

Antoine Giroust studied from 1770 to 1775 at the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture with Joseph-Marie Vien . In 1775 Vien took over the management of the Académie de France à Rome . Antoine Giroust then remained under the direction of Nicolas-Bernard Lépicié (1735–1784) for three years .

In 1778 he won the Prix ​​de Rome and again spent the period from 1778 to 1780 under the supervision of Joseph-Marie Vien. There he dealt with history painting based on the Italian models. He also copied masterpieces from the Roman art collections.

On March 29, 1788 he was elected a member of the academy. His history paintings were highly valued. During the French Revolution he joined the Orléanists . As adjutant to the Duke of Chartres, he took part in the battles of Valmy and Jemappes in 1792 .

He worked as a painter until 1802. From 1800 to 1805 he was mayor of Serres (Meurthe-et-Moselle) , then of Mitry (1815). In 1817 he committed suicide.
