history
Pontault is first mentioned as Pontelz in 1079. The name probably comes from the Latin name for a small bridge ( ponticellum ). In 1839 the municipalities of Pontault and Combault were merged. It was not until the 20th century that the community developed into a banlieue in eastern Paris. From the 1970s onwards, the population rose to over 10,000, while it was below 1,000 at the beginning of the 20th century.
