The Castle of Brie-Comte-Robert , a French commune in the Seine-et-Marne in the region Ile-de-France , was built in the late 12th century. It is the ruin of a moated castle and has been a protected architectural monument ( Monument historique ) since 1925 .
history
1152 received Robert I , Comte de Dreux, as apanage from his father Ludwig VI. Dreux and Brie-Comte-Robert. He had the rectangular castle built, each of which is 55 meters long. It is surrounded by a moat and had four corner towers and four other towers at the entrances and on the east and west walls (see reconstruction drawing).
In the 14th century, Johanna von Évreux , the widow of Charles IV , lived in the castle, where she died in 1371. She had the castle enlarged and a chapel installed in the Saint-Jean tower. Then lived Louis de Valois , the brother of the French King Charles VI. , in the castle.
During the Hundred Years War , the castle was besieged and captured by the English several times.
From the 15th century onwards, deserving nobles lived in the castle, which belonged to the crown domain . In the 18th century the castle was only partially used and fell into disrepair. After modern installations were built in the castle in the 19th century, the municipality bought the entire property in 1923 and the state placed it under monument protection .
renovation
For more than 30 years, the Les Amis du Vieux Château association has been trying to get the remains of the castle, the restoration of which is almost complete. There is a new museum building in the inner courtyard, in which the history of the castle is explained using finds and drawings.
