Denis Podalydès (born April 22, 1963 in Versailles ) is a French actor , screenwriter and theater director .

Life

Denis Podalydès was born the son of a pharmacist of Greek descent and an English teacher. His older brother is the writer and filmmaker Bruno Podalydès . Denis Podalydès studied philosophy and literature at the Lycée Fénelon, where he met the later film director Emmanuel Bourdieu . He was able to persuade him to study with him at the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique , which he then did from 1984, among others with Philippe Uchan , Michel Bouquet and Jean-Pierre Miquel . Podalydès is a Sociétaire de la Comédie-Française .

In the 2012 French presidential election , Podalydès supported the socialist challenger and later President François Hollande .
