Alexander James Pearce (born November 9, 1988 in Oxford ) is an Irish football player born in England .
Player career
Reading FC
Alex Pearce made his debut on January 9, 2007 in the third round of the 2006/07 FA Cup for Reading FC in a 3-2 home win over Burnley FC . He then played until May 6, 2007 on loan for the English third division club Northampton Town (15 league games / 1 goal). After playing on loan at AFC Bournemouth and Norwich City in the 2007/08 season , he played his first league game for Reading in the 2008/09 Football League Championship on August 23, 2008 (4-2 defeat at Charlton Athletic).
After two more seasons with regular appearances, Alex Pearce (45 league games / 5 goals) established himself in the Football League Championship 2011/12 as a regular in the defense of Reading FC and achieved promotion to the Premier League with his team . He was voted Player of the Month for December 2011 as an award for his above-average performance.
Derby County
On June 8, 2015 Alex Pearce moved to league rivals Derby County on a free transfer and signed a three-year contract.
National teams
Pearce played for Ireland as a pupil and is also eligible to play for Scotland through his Scottish parents. On May 20, 2008 Alex Pearce made his debut for the Scottish U-21 national team in a 1: 4 loss to Norway. He made his debut in the jersey of the Irish national team on September 11, 2012 in a 4-1 win in the friendly against Oman , when head coach Giovanni Trapattoni replaced him in the 46th minute for Marc Wilson from Stoke City and in the 85th minute 4-1 final score scored. Since then, he has been used in six other friendly matches. On May 12, 2016 he was appointed by national coach Martin O'Neill to the provisional 35-player squad for the European Championship 2016 . In the end, however, it was not taken into account for the European Championship finals.
