Bruno Podalydès (born March 11, 1961 in Versailles ) is a French writer , director and actor .

Life

The son of a pharmacist and an English teacher, grew up with three brothers, including the actor Denis Podalydès . He attended the Lycée Hoche , a secondary school in Versailles . After making commercials for Air France , he made his first short feature film in 1992 with One Night in Versailles (Versailles Rive-Gauche) ; while he cast the main role with his younger brother Denis.

Versailles Rive-Gauche won the audience award at the Festival du Court-Métrage de Clermont-Ferrand in 1992 , where it received an honorable mention from the jury; In 1993 the film was awarded a César for best short film . In 1994 Podalydès released his second short film, Voilà, which was shown at the Venice International Film Festival . In it he took on a role again.

His first feature film, Only God sees me (Dieu seul me voit), shows the young Albert Jeanjean, played by Podalydès himself, who in the film meets three women who contribute to his development. After the short film Versailles Rive-Gauche, the film is the second part of the trilogy des gares (station trilogy); the long version of the film in the form of six episodes, originally conceived as a television miniseries, was released on DVD in France in November 2008. The film received the César in 1999 for best first work . With park bench (Bancs Publics) in 2008, the third part of the trilogy was published.

With The Secret of the Yellow Room (2003) and The Perfume of the Lady in Black (2005) Podalydès filmed two works by Gaston Leroux . He works regularly with his brother Denis and the actors Isabelle Candelier , Michel Vuillermoz , Philippe Uchan , Jean-Noël Brouté and Ariane Pirié .
