Austrian Superior Conference

The Superior Conference of the male religious orders of Austria is an association of the major superiors of the male religious orders of Austria and is recognized as a public legal person by church and state. Members are the major superiors of the male religious orders in Austria. The Superior Conference sees itself as a representation of the interests of the major superiors, while maintaining the independence of each community. 87 communities are currently members of the Superior Conference in Austria. The Superior Conference has diocesan religious conferences in Vienna-Eisenstadt, St. Pölten, Linz, Salzburg, Graz-Seckau, Gurk-Klagenfurt, Innsbruck and Feldkirch.

The first chairman is Abbot President Christian Haidinger OSB. The second chairman is P. Bernhard Bürgler SJ. General Secretary is Fr Franz Helm SVD. The Superior Conference was founded in 1959 as the successor organization to the Austrian Abbots' Conference that had existed up until then.

The Superior Conference is a member of the Union of European Conferences of Major Superiors (UCESM).

As decided on November 25, 2019, the Austrian Superior Conference and the Union of Austrian Women's Orders will probably merge to form the Austrian Order Conference in 2020 as soon as their statutes have been approved. The future chairman of the new order conference will be Archabbot Korbinian Birnbacher OSB of St. Peter Abbey (Salzburg) , while Sister Franziska Bruckner OSF was designated as his deputy . Until then, the respective board members will remain in office.
