Festival du Court-Métrage de Clermont-Ferrand
The Festival du Court-Métrage de Clermont-Ferrand is an international short film festival in the French city of Clermont-Ferrand . In terms of attendance and industry interest, it is the second largest film festival in France after the Festival International du Film de Cannes .
history
Before the festival was actually founded, there was a previous festival with the short film weeks of the Cercle Cinématographique Universitaire de Clermont-Ferrand (CCUC) between 1979 and 1981. The success of this initiative led to the founding of the Sauve qui peut le court métrage organization in 1981 , whose goal is the public appreciation of short films . The festival was finally launched in 1982. In addition to competition programs, thematic short film blocks are offered. The festival was soon able to achieve wide-spread impact and establish itself. The first short film market for industry representatives was organized in 1986, which made the festival more open to economic interests. In 1988 Clermont-Ferrand changed from a national to an international short film festival.
The growing success was measured in the number of spectators: In 1989 there were 28,000 festival visitors, the 100,000 mark was exceeded in 1995. At the same time, the Commission du Film Auvergne created a tour program in the region in 1997. In 2004 the festival reached 135,000 spectators. The Clermont-Ferrand Festival is one of the most important short film festivals in the world today. The Sauve qui peut le court-métrage organization currently employs seventeen people.
