Esen Işık

Esen Işık (* 1969 in Istanbul , Turkey ) is a Swiss- Turkish director and screenwriter based in Zurich .

Life

Esen Işık was born in Istanbul in 1969. She has lived in Switzerland since 1990. In 1997 she graduated from the Zurich University of Music and Theater (today Zurich University of the Arts ). Her graduation film there was nominated for the Swiss Film Award (short film). Other short films followed, in which Işık both directed and wrote the script.

Her first feature film, Köpek (2015), deals with the issue of traditional societal violence using the example of Turkey. Köpek was nominated in 5 categories for the Swiss Film Prize 2016 and awarded the prizes for the best film and the best actress.
