Reto Caffi

Reto Caffi (* 1971 in Zurich ) is a Swiss film director . He became known through the Student Oscar 2008 for his graduation film at the Art Academy for Media in Cologne .

Live and act

Reto Caffi grew up in Bern and studied English-language literature and journalism at the University of Friborg between 1992 and 1998 . After graduating, he earned his living as a film critic and cultural journalist for Swiss Radio International and Swiss Television, among others .

From 2004 to 2007 Reto Caffi completed a postgraduate course with a focus on directing and screenwriting at the Art Academy for Media in Cologne . His short films Quickie (co-director with Niculin Jäger), Leo's Freunde (co-director with Tom Traber ), Bus-Stop 99 and Men by the Sea were awarded a total of more than 30 awards.

In 2008 he received the student Oscar for the best foreign film ( Honorary Foreign Film Award ) with his half-hour film On the Line and in 2009 an Oscar nomination from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles . The film had already received numerous awards in Europe , including the Grand Prix at the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival and the Quartz Swiss Film Prize for the best short film in 2008.

Reto Caffi has also been active in the advertising film sector since 2010, which has brought him further awards (Nomination Young Directors Award at the Cannes Advertising Film Festival, Red Dot Award, World Media Award, Xaver Award and several nominations for the Swiss Advertising Film Award EDI).
