action
The rich Federica is looking for her meaning in life. Nor can she properly fit into her family: Her mother only ever sees the good, while her sister has fallen into deepest depression. In addition, her boyfriend Pierre urges her because he finally wants to have children. She turns to a pastor for help because she doesn't know whether she really wants this. He familiarizes her with the parable of Jesus, which does not help her any further: “ It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. “( Mt 19.24 EU ) From now on she drives her Jaguar through Paris. Starting in her elegant 16th arrondissement , she alternately visits her fiancé Pierre and her dying father.
Reviews
The “entertaining, playful and thoughtful film” is an “amusing, light-footed, sometimes courageous, but then again egocentric, autobiographical study” that asks questions about the meaning of life. The director rarely finds a convincing balance between “documentary-looking and playful scenes”, according to the lexicon of international films .
On February 25, 2004, Hans-Dieter Seidel wrote in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that Valeria Bruni Tedeschi was going to work in this relaxed series of scenes with “playful ease”, which seemed to push back flashes from happy childhood into Federica's confused everyday life. The tender moments with the terminally ill father are full of emotion, but "far from any sentimentality".
Melanie Balz praised the film as a whole in editing , but criticized that it was unclear "which core message the director actually wanted to convey with her story."
