The 16th arrondissement (district), one of 20 Parisian arrondissements , is located on the right bank of the Seine . The district is also known as the Arrondissement Passy , after the name of the old parish that was incorporated into Paris in 1860.

Together with the 7th arrondissement and the suburb Neuilly-sur-Seine to the west, it forms the most expensive and wealthiest residential district in France. In addition, the quarters that border the Bois de Boulogne are also described as Neuilly-Auteuil-Passy , which comprises the uniform quarter between the arrondissement and the suburb of Neuilly-sur-Seine. In French usage, the 16th arrondissement is also used symbolically as a term for (bourgeois) elegance and wealth.

It borders the communes of Neuilly-sur-Seine and Boulogne-Billancourt . Its western part is the Bois de Boulogne , which takes up a little more than half of the area of the arrondissement. The 16 ° is located opposite the Eiffel Tower . The Maison de Radio France , the Trocadéro , the Jardins du Trocadéro , the Rue de Passy , the Avenue Victor-Hugo , the Prinzenpark, the Rue d'Auteuil , the Avenue du Président Kennedy , the Boulevard Exelmans , the Rue Michel-Ange and the Rue Molitor are the most famous localities in the 16th arrondissement. On the southern edge of the Bois de Boulogne is the Stade Roland Garros , where the French Open Grand Slam tournament takes place every year.

There are five state high schools in the arrondissement: Janson de Sailly , Jean-Baptiste Say , La Fontaine , Molière and Claude Bernard. Numerous prominent people are buried on the Cimetière de Passy . Because of its size, it is the only arrondissement of Paris that has two different postcodes .

The Avenues Henri-Martin and Georges-Mandel mark the border between the two areas. The 16th is divided equally into two constituencies, the 15th and 16th. They correspond to the division of the arrondissement into south and north and are currently represented by the MPs Claude Goasguen , UMP , President of the UMP City Council Group , and Bernard Debré ( UDF ). Both are former ministers - May to November 1995, under the Juppé I government and November 1994 to May 1995 under the Balladur government - and are running for the mayor of Paris for their party. From 1989 to 2008 Pierre-Christian Taittinger , Minister and Senator ret. D., Mayor of the Arrondissement.
