The old stock exchange

The 2nd arrondissement of Paris , the Arrondissement de la Bourse , is the smallest arrondissement in the city of Paris with an area of 99 hectares .

history

The 2nd arrondissement is the result of the city's expansion to the north during the 15th and 16th centuries . However, the first buildings were built in the 14th century . At that time, the city wall built by Charles V extended to today's Rue d'Aboukir . Under Louis XIII. The urban area expanded in the 16th century to the northern border of the arrondissement, where the large boulevards run today.

In 1860 the boundaries of the 2nd arrondissement were set.

Geographical location

The 2nd arrondissement is north of the central 1st arrondissement . It is surrounded in the east by the 3rd and in the north by the 9th and 10th arrondissement .

Metro lines

Metro lines 3 , 4 , 8 and 9 run through and along the 2nd arrondissement . The arrondissement is surrounded by four large metro stations that are connected to each other: Opéra , Richelieu-Drouot , Strasbourg St-Denis and Reaumur Sébastopol .

The Nestor Burma novel Des kilomètres de linceuls (Eng. Fabric for many corpses ) by Léo Malet is set in the 2nd arrondissement.
