Colline de Chaillot

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Chaillot is the name of a low hill ( French colline de Chaillot ) on the Rive Droite (right bank) of the Seine and the 64th of the 80 quarters (districts) of Paris , which is part of the 16th arrondissement . The hill was incorporated like other outlying districts on January 1, 1860 .

The Palais de Chaillot has stood on the hilltop , which was removed several meters in the course of Haussmann's urban redevelopment, since 1937 , which today houses the École de Chaillot , the Théâtre national de Chaillot , the Musée national de la Marine and the Cité de l ' architecture et du patrimoine .

history

In the Middle Ages, the slopes of the Chaillot Hill were one of the growing areas of so-called French wines - that is, the wines from the Ile de France - which, like the neighboring areas of Suresnes and Argenteuil , delivered products of extremely different quality to Paris.
