action

Azad Zakarian was born in May 1915, the year of the Armenian genocide . In 1921 he fled from Turkey to France with his mother Araxi, father Hagop and aunts Anna and Gayané from ethnic persecution . The family tries to find a new life in Marseille , but has to deal with the difficulties of integration in a foreign country. The film depicts Asad's childhood and youth, in which he discovered his love for film.

reception

A continuation of the family chronicle , the film Mayrig - The Road to Paradise (original title: 588 rue paradis ), was made in 1992.

criticism

“The epic is most likely to impress with its stirring memories of a dark chapter in contemporary history; the family history suffers from schematic character drawings and overly nostalgic coloring. "

Awards

Jean-Claude Petit's film music was nominated for the French César Film Prize. In 1991 the film won the French National Film Academy Award .
