Jean-Claude Petit

Jean-Claude Petit (born November 14, 1943 in Vaires-sur-Marne ) is a French composer who has emerged as a chanson writer , arranger and film composer .

Live and act

Petit studied at the Collège National Superieur de la Musique in Paris and was awarded first prizes in harmony , fugue and counterpoint . During his studies he accompanied American stars such as Dexter Gordon , Johnny Griffin and Kenny Clarke in the Paris jazz clubs .

Since 1970 Petit has released three pop jazz albums under his own name. He also worked for Julien Clerc , Serge Lama , Sheila , Claude François , Mink DeVille (Le Chat Bleu) , Joan Baez , Michel Sardou , Alain Souchon , Sylvie Vartan , Jairo , Mort Shuman and Gilbert Bécaud . As arranger and pianist he supported Philip Catherine on his album Babel (1980).

Petit also wrote music for plays by Robert Hossein , Victor Haïm and numerous other successes. Since 1982 he has been composing film music, for example for Cyrano von Bergerac , The Playboys and Jean Florette . He has also written two operas, Sans Famille (2007 in Nice) and Colomba (2014 in Marseille).
