Fabrice Luchini (born November 1, 1951 in Paris ; actually Robert Luchini ) is a French theater and film actor .

Life

Luchini was born in 1951 as the son of Hélène Raulhac and Adelmo Luchini, a fruit and vegetable trader of Italian origin, and grew up with two brothers, Alain and Michel, in the Goutte d'Or district of Paris . He dropped out of school at the age of 13, whereupon his mother took him on as an apprentice in a hairdressing salon on Avenue Matignon. There he changed his real first name from Robert to Fabrice at the request of his employer. Despite dropping out of school early, he developed a taste for French literature and eagerly read works by authors such as Balzac , Flaubert and Proust . In the late 1960s he met the director Philippe Labro in a club , who offered him a role in his film Tout peut arriver (1969). Luchini got his first screen appearance. He then took acting lessons from Jean-Laurent Cochet , whereupon he discovered the theater for himself.

In 1970 Luchini starred in a minor supporting role in Claire's Knee , directed by Éric Rohmer , who entrusted him with the lead role in Perceval le Gallois in 1978, when Luchini also appeared in a supporting role in Claude Chabrol's Violette Nozière . In the 1980s Luchini starred in three other films by Rohmers: The Aviator's Wife or One Can't Think of Nothing (1981), Full Moon Nights (1984) and Four Adventures by Reinette and Mirabelle (1987). For nights of the full moon , Luchini received his first nomination for César in the category Best Supporting Actor in 1985 , which he finally won in 1994 for his role in Claude Lelouch's film drama Alles für die Liebe (1993). He received another César nomination in 1995 for the role of the lawyer Derville at the side of Gérard Depardieu and Fanny Ardant in the Balzac film The Resurrection of Colonel Chabert . This was followed by leading roles, such as the title role in the lavish costume film Beaumarchais - Der Unschämte (1996) by Édouard Molinaro , and important supporting roles, such as in Philippe de Broca's adventure film Duell der Degen (1997) as a scheming antagonist of Daniel Auteuil .

Over the years Luchini has appeared regularly on the theater stage - both in classical and contemporary pieces - and was subsequently nominated several times for the Molière , the most important French theater award, which he only received in the form of an honorary award in 2016 . He has also appeared on the stage several times with readings of works by important writers and philosophers such as Baudelaire , La Fontaine , Hugo and Nietzsche . In 2009 he went on tour with Le point sur Robert , a humorous one-man show about the great works of French literature, and received a lot of critical praise for it.

As a tyrannical factory owner, Luchini starred alongside Gérard Depardieu and Catherine Deneuve in François Ozone's hit comedy The Gem in 2010, which was followed by a leading role in For Personnel Only! , a surprise success in 2011, followed. He then worked with ozone again for the thriller In Her House (2012). In the same year he could be seen as Julius Caesar in Asterix & Obelix - On Her Majesty's behalf . In 2015 Luchini played alongside Sidse Babett Knudsen a merciless judge in L'hermine , for which he was awarded the Coppa Volpi at the Venice International Film Festival .

Luchini is in a relationship with Emmanuelle Garrassino. His daughter Emma Luchini (* 1979), who also works as a director in the film business, comes from a longstanding relationship with the former journalist and current theater director Cathy Debeauvais.
