Call My Agent! (Original title: Dix pourcent) is a French television series based on the transmitter on October 14, 2015 2 France its premiere celebrated. The original title refers to the fee of acting agencies , which in France is usually ten percent of the actor's fee. The series was created by the screenwriter Fanny Herrero , with the idea for the series coming from the actor and film producer Dominique Besnehard , who worked as a casting director for years . Many of the storylines are based on Besnehard's own experiences.

Since the first season received a positive response, a second season was filmed from September to December 2016, which was broadcast for the first time in April 2017. Because this was also well received by both the critics and the public, a third season was announced, which was filmed from January to April 2018 and was first broadcast on November 14 of the same year.

The series can be seen on Netflix in 119 countries, including the Netherlands , the USA and the UK . In Germany it will be broadcast on SONY Channel and in 2020 on ONE and the ARD Mediathek .

action

The series is about the employees of the fictional Parisian acting agency ASK (Agence Samuel Kerr), who are also partners in the company. When Samuel Kerr, the agency's founder, suffocated on a wasp while on vacation in Brazil , the company was on the verge of collapse, as the financial situation was extremely precarious due to the lack of an investor . Finally, the businessman Hicham Janowski takes over the agency, but it quickly turns out that he is manipulative and choleric and often uses unfair methods to intercept actors from the main competitor Star Media.

The agents not only have to struggle with their new boss and private problems, but above all with the airs of their customers. A special feature is that all actors embody themselves in an exaggerated, self-ironic form. For example, Françoise Fabian rejects a film role. But when she finds out that Line Renaud wants to take over this, she wants to play the role by all means, because the two share an old enmity. In another episode, Nathalie Baye and her daughter Laura Smet are supposed to make a film together, but the former acts badly on her casting date and the latter shows diva-like behavior only to lose the roles because they have not been on one for three months small island in Sweden .

characters

main characters

Andréa Martel

Andréa, who values the medium of film very much, works for the agency with great passion, but does not always have her temper under control, which sometimes causes difficulties. She is a lesbian and has a very promiscuous life . This will result in a problem because Colette Brancillon whose advances them on a single stock exchange declined two days later as a tax inspector's finances nearly bankrupt agency checked . Andréa falls in love with Colette and wants to start a relationship with her in the first season, but she refuses. Out of frustration and disappointment, Andréa has a one-night stand with her superior Hicham Janowski and becomes pregnant . Nevertheless, Andréa wants to meet Colette again, and the two confess their love at the end of the second season.

Mathias Barneville

Mathias is primarily concerned with earning as much money as possible, the artistic value of the films in which his clients play is secondary. He enjoys the power status that his work entails and occasionally creates intrigues when it might be of use to him later. His assistant Noémie is in love with him, but these feelings are not mutual. He is married to Catherine and has a son named Hippolyte. He and his lover Annick have a daughter, Camille Valentini , with whom he never really had contact. When Camille shows up at the agency, Andrea hires her as an assistant, without anyone knowing that she is Mathias' daughter. After initial hesitation, Mathias finally accepts her as his child.

Gabriel Sarda

Gabriel goes about his work with great care, the careers of his customers are most important to him. Most of the time he does not have the heart to give them unpleasant news, which often leads to misunderstandings, for example he did not want to tell Cécile de France that she was rejected for a Tarantino film because of her age (almost 40 years) . He is very good friends with Andréa, the two sometimes seriously consider having children together, even though Andréa is homosexual .

Arlette Azémar

Arlette is the longest-serving agent, she has been with the agency since the 1970s, which is why her views on the film business are somewhat antiquated. Although she is often sarcastic and snippy, she is actually quite friendly to her colleagues, gives them advice when they are stuck and mediates if there are differences of opinion. She owns a Jack Russell Terrier named Jean Gabin . She always takes this with her to work. A running gag consists in biting every time an employee does something questionable at work.

Hicham Janowski

As of the second season, Hicham is the new owner of the agency, as he has taken over 60% of the company shares. He is a wealthy businessman who only cares about profit. With his opinionated, arrogant manner, he offends his employees. His main concern is to win the best known actors as customers, especially Fabrice Luchini , who is already being mediated by another agency. He spends one night with Andréa, who then becomes pregnant. His attempts to get together with her because of the common child fail.

Camille Valentini

Camille is Andréa's assistant. She comes from the south of France and has only recently lived in Paris. She is Mathias' daughter, which nobody in the agency knows. When Mathias finally reveals this secret, she has to regain the trust of her colleagues. She falls in love with her half-brother Hippolyte, but apart from a kiss , nothing serious develops between the two.

Noémie Leclerc

Noémie is Mathias' assistant. She is very interested in shamanism and loves her boss, which he does not recognize or reciprocate.

Hervé André-Jezack

Hervé is Gabriel's assistant. He is extremely committed and ambitious in what he does. Together with Noémie, he always exchanges rumors about his colleagues.

Sophia Leprince

Sophia works in the agency as a receptionist and is waiting for her breakthrough as an actress. She also has a great singing talent, which is evident in several episodes. She begins a relationship with Gabriel, which is often put to the test because he is prone to jealousy .

reception

The series achieved a rating of 8.1 stars based on 1,444 reviews in the Internet Movie Database .

On Rotten Tomatoes, the first season achieved a score of 100 percent based on five critical and 21 user votes.

“The view of the industry is sometimes biting to cynical, so fragile are the promises, commitments, friendships and enmities, at the same time it is the celebration of an artist's profession. When Arlette says, 'Actors are fragile, unpredictable, easily influenced beings. This is why the majority of agents do not have children of their own. Otherwise that would be too much ', then there is at least as much pragmatic life in this sentence as there is warm respect for a profession that cannot be grasped by employee standards. Finally a madness that is not only method, but also successful. At its core, the series does not hesitate to celebrate the French love for French film and its stars. "

Awards

In 2016 the series was nominated for an International Emmy Award in the category "Best Comedy Series" .
