Jean Dujardin [ ʒã edmɔ̃ dyʒaʁdɛ̃ ] (born June 19, 1972 in Rueil-Malmaison , Hauts-de-Seine department ) is a French actor , comedian , singer and Oscar winner.

Life

Dujardin initially worked as a locksmith . After his military service , he played on local cabaret stages. He joined the ensemble “Nous Ç Nous”, with whom he won three times in the “Comedian” category in the French television show Graines de stars between 1997 and 1998 . Between 1999 and 2003 he played with his wife Alexandra Lamy in the French adaptation of the Canadian sitcom Un gars, une fille .

Due to its enormous popularity, he received his first film roles in 2002. After a few supporting roles, he had his breakthrough in French cinema with the comedy film Cool Waves - Brice de Nice , which was based on one of his stand-up characters ; the film had more than four million viewers. With Le Casse de Brice from the film soundtrack, a rap based on the music of Give Me the Night by George Benson , he had a big chart hit in French-speaking countries. In 2006 he played the main role in the agent film parody OSS 117 - The Spy Who Loved Each Other , which is based on the heroic novel OSS 117 . This film was also a box-office success with over two million viewers, as was the sequel in 2009.

For his role as the failing silent film actor George Valentin in Michel Hazanavicius ' The Artist (2011), he became the first French actor to receive the Oscar for best male leading role in 2012 . Other awards were the Best Actor Award of the 64th Film Festival of Cannes , a Golden Globe , a British Academy Film Awards as well as nominations for the European Film Award and the César .
