action

Ariane Felder is 40 years old, a judge and a staunch single. She grew up with her mother because her father left the family when she was little; As a judge, she also has to deal with broken families very often, which increases her aversion to men. It's New Year's Eve and Ariane is working while everyone is partying. They persuade them to come to the celebration. Ariane gets drunk and stumbles out of the courthouse after midnight.

Six months later, Ariane is about to be promoted to a member of the court of appeal . However, she is not feeling well and learns from her gynecologist that she is six months pregnant. She is shocked, especially since she has no great memories of the New Year's Eve in question. She suspects she ended up in bed with her colleague Godefroy De Bernard, who makes ambiguous comments when they meet to play golf. With a skilful stroke of golf, Ariane can secure a hair sample from him, which she can use for a paternity test. The result leaves her stunned: Godefroy is not the father, but the police computer has been able to identify Bob Nolan as the father. He is a habit breaker and has been in jail for four months because he is said to have severed all limbs of a pensioner in a robbery and ate his eyes. In the press, Bob is portrayed as a monster. Ariane has the surveillance images of that evening shown to her and sees how she staggered through Paris that evening, heavily drunk, ended up in the prostitute district and finally Bob has sex with her in a side street. She confiscated the tape. Because her colleagues think she's working on the Bob Nolan case, they get him out of jail so that she can be questioned without his lawyer. Ariane refuses and is visited shortly after by Bob and his incompetent lawyer Trolos. Bob recognizes her as the New Year's Eve woman, and she throws him and his lawyer out.

Bob breaks out of prison shortly afterwards. He breaks into Ariane's house while she is trying to abort her child by falling from a great height. He catches her and stays with her until she comes to. When she gets hysterical, he locks her up. He makes it clear to her that he wants a deal: He won't tell anyone about how and where she spends her evenings. To do this, she is supposed to go through his case and find evidence of his innocence, since he did not murder the pensioner. She refuses to work with him and also evades all questions about the child, with whom she is said to be only five months pregnant and who has a crazy father. However, when she realizes how much he is burdened by the media presentation of his case and the accusation of being a strange monster, she agrees to work together. She steals the investigation file into the Bob Nolan case from Godefroy. The files do not allow any other conclusion than that Nolan is the culprit. Only at the end does Ariane see that the time of the crime was set at 1:20 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. on January 1st and thus the time when she had sex with Bob Nolan according to the video recording. So Bob can't be the culprit, but Ariane keeps her knowledge to herself. Meanwhile, Bob finds the documents confirming his paternity in her apartment. He asks Ariane to keep the child, as it might come after her and not after the crazy father. She realizes that he knows he is the father.

Bob Nolan leaves her and is caught on the run. When he is led into the courthouse, Ariane can hardly stand it. Because he has an incompetent defense attorney in Trolos, he will be convicted. Ariane finally appears heavily pregnant in the courtroom when the pleadings have already been held. She admits she was with Bob at the time of the crime and presents him as the father of her child. Bob is acquitted, especially since the real culprit is found shortly afterwards in a psychopath . Ariane, who is professionally demoted for her public misstep on New Year's Day, decides to keep their child. Bob searches for a suitable name with Bob, rejects Bob's suggestion "Kevin", but "Steve" agrees.
