Laura Smet (born November 15, 1983 in Neuilly-sur-Seine ) is a French actress .

Life

Laura Smet was born near Paris in 1983 as the daughter of the singer Johnny Hallyday (real name Jean-Philippe Smet ) and the French actress Nathalie Baye . Her parents separated three years later and she grew up with her mother. One of her godparents is the singer and actor Eddy Mitchell . After leaving school at the age of sixteen, Smet turned to acting and attended classes from actor Raymond Acquaviva . In the summer of 2002 she took part in a workshop for young filmmakers, which made it possible for up-and-coming directors who were little known so far to bring their respective projects to a successful conclusion. Here Smet also played alongside Kristin Scott Thomas in the pilot of Joo Jihong's Happy End .

She received her first film role from Olivier Assayas , who recommended Smet to his fellow director Xavier Giannoli . In 2003, she starred in Giannoli's drama It Burns Inside Me, Charlotte, who is suffering from cancer and who is involved in a love triangle with her boyfriend, the taciturn law student Paul (played by Nicolas Duvauchelle ), and her cousin. Laura Smet received critical acclaim for her portrayal and in 2004 she received a nomination for the César as best young actress , France's national film award, and the Romy Schneider Award .

After the success with her first film, Laura Smet appeared in a supporting supporting role in Frédéric Fonteyne's drama Gilles' Wife , in which she played the beautiful young sister of Emmanuelle Devos . A year later she acted under the direction of Claude Chabrol in The Bridesmaid , who also made her known to an international audience. In the thriller, Benoît Magimel is her film partner, from whom she demands murder as proof of love.

In 2006 Smet, one of the most talented young actors in France, played a supporting role in Florence Moncorgé-Gabin's drama La passager de l'été , in which she worked alongside François Berléand , Grégori Derangère , Catherine Frot , and Samuel Le Bihan, among others and Mathilde Seigner could be seen. In 2007 he appeared in three film productions, including the leading role in Pascal Thomas ' Agatha Christie film L'heure zéro with Chiara Mastroianni , Melvil Poupaud and Danielle Darrieux . In the same year Smet had to stop filming Jean-Paul Salomé's historical drama Les femmes de l'ombre due to “health problems and overexertion” . Months later, Smet announced that she was receiving inpatient treatment due to her increased alcohol and drug consumption.

The actress is a huge fan of Gena Rowlands and Naomi Watts . Until 2007 she was in a relationship with the writer Frédéric Beigbeder , who was almost eighteen years her senior . She is managed by her godfather Dominique Besnehard , to whom her mother Nathalie Baye, Anouk Aimée , Eva Green and Sophie Marceau were also under contract.

Smet's relationship with Julien Delajoux caused a sensation in the French tabloid press in 2009. His brother had operated on her father, Johnny Hallyday, on the intervertebral disc, which led to medical complications. At the beginning of January 2010, according to media reports, she was admitted to a Paris hospital due to severe alcohol and tablet poisoning. Smets agent denied this message and spoke only of a "simple fit of weakness". In January 2012, Smet was arrested in Paris while walking naked.
