Żychlin [ ˈʒɨxlin ] ( German Zichlin , older Sichlin ) is a city in Poland in the Łódź Voivodeship . The city is the seat of the urban and rural municipality of the same name .
history
The first evidence of a permanent settlement at the site of today's Żychlin comes from the period 1306 - 1331 . The place belonged to the Lubicz family of Szlachta . In 1331 there was already a parish in the village . In the same year, the town of Prussen was burned down and became the property of the Żychliński family , who remained owners until 1397. The exact time of the award of the town charter is not known, but it was before 1397. The oldest document from a town council comes from 1419. Sigismund I granted the city the first trading privilege in 1542. During the Swedish-Polish war , the place was destroyed several times between 1655 and 1657. From 1707 to 1713 the plague raged in the city. A private school opens in 1774. As a result of the Second Partition of Poland , the city became part of Prussia in 1793 . With the establishment of the Duchy of Warsaw , Żychlin became part of it and then in 1815 part of Congress Poland . The local elementary school opened in 1828. In 1852 cholera broke out in the city. The connection to the rail network took place in 1862 . In 1870 the place lost its city rights. Twelve years later a fire brigade was founded in Żychlin. In the course of the First World War , the city was occupied by German troops from 1914 to November 11, 1918 . During the Second World War , the place was occupied by the Wehrmacht in 1939 and incorporated into the Kutno district. On May 18, 1943 , the name was changed to Zichlin . On January 18, 1945 , the Red Army reached the place, which was renamed Żychlin again. During an administrative reform, the place became part of the Płock Voivodeship in 1975 . In 1984 a water treatment plant was put into operation. In 1995 the Union Chocolate factory was opened in the town. On June 16, 1998 , Pope John Paul II became an honorary citizen of the city and the community. In 1999 another administrative reform came into force, in the course of which the place became part of the Łódź Voivodeship.
Population development
In 1790, 350 people lived in the city. In 1913 there were already over 5,000.
