Reviews

“That this man turned fashion inside out had to be written into the credits, otherwise it would have gone unnoticed. Lespert's film could have told a large audience something truthful and instead trivializes its hero and his life's work. Fashion without meaning is just a shell. And the most magnificent cinema is nothing without good films. "

- Rabea Weihser : The time

“How do you film such a flickering, manic-creative life? French director Jalil Lespert decided to tell it as a love story. And actually, the unstable artist is not the focus for him, but his partner and supporter Pierre Bergé, who is portrayed in the film as infinitely kind, amiable and patient. And in spite of sophisticated ingredients such as models, Marrakech, Nikolai Kinski (very convincing) as Karl Lagerfeld, a roof terrace with a view of the Arc de Triomphe or cocaine, the film is upright and honest, as if it were about the inventor of the Quelle catalog. Whoever Yves Saint Laurent was: he didn't deserve such a harmless film. "

- Johanna Adorján : FAZ

"Even if the script, based on Laurence Benaim's biography, has hardly any surprises and celebrates the well-known biographical cornerstones, the film knows how to captivate in every shot, especially through the grandiose performances of its actors."
