Jacques de Bascher

Jacques de Bascher de Beaumarchais (born July 8, 1951 in Saigon , French Indochina , † September 3, 1989 in Garches ) was a French dandy and member of the Parisian jet set . From 1972 until his death, he was Karl Lagerfeld's partner and at times Yves Saint Laurent's lover.

Life

Jacques de Bascher's father, Antony de Bascher, was Governor of Cholon Province in Vietnam and, on his return to France in 1955, General Manager of Shell's insurance division . His mother, nee Armelle Petit, came from a large landowning family from the Limousin . De Bascher had two sisters and two brothers. The family had been raised to the nobility in 1818. They lived in Neuilly-sur-Seine near Paris and in the summer in their country castle Château de la Berrière in Barbechat near Nantes. De Bascher attended the Lycée Pasteur in Neuilly-sur-Seine, the Lycée Janson de Sailly and the Lycée Charlemagne . He dropped out of law school after a short time. After his military service in the Navy, he lived with the family. In 1972 he became a steward at Air France .

In 1972 he met the fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld and was his partner for many years. Between 1973 and 1977, Bascher had an affair with the fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent . In 1977 he shot the film Histoire d'Eau on behalf of Fendi , a kind of harbinger of the now established genre “Fashion Film”, and with it presented Karl Lagerfeld's “Ready to Wear” collection.

1989 died de Bascher in Garches to AIDS . In 1991 Lagerfeld bought a house in Hamburg-Blankenese , which he called the Villa Jako in memory of Bascher . In 1998 he launched a fragrance called Jako .
