Günter Erbe

Günter Erbe (born July 16, 1943 in Gadderbaum ) is a German sociologist and cultural historian.

Life

academic career

Günter Erbe studied sociology, philosophy, political science and German at the Technical and Free University of Berlin and received his doctorate in sociology in 1980. From 1975 to 1991 he was a research associate at the Central Institute for Social Science Research - GDR Research Division at the Free University of Berlin. In 1991 he completed his habilitation with a thesis on the reception of modernity in the GDR. Since then he has taught as a private lecturer in the sociology of culture and literature at the Free University of Berlin. Erbe was a scholarship holder of the German Historical Institutes in Paris , London and Warsaw and the Künstlerhaus Schloss Wiepersdorf and Directeur d'Etudes Associé at the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme Paris. From 2001 to 2012 he was Professor of Political Science at the University of Zielona Góra .

Erbe has been teaching at the Lessing University in Berlin since 2000 and at the Steglitz-Zehlendorf Adult Education Center since 2013.

Since the early 1990s he has been concerned with the sociology of literary and artistic intelligence, the cultural history of the European nobility in the 19th and 20th centuries and the sociology of taste .
