François Berléand

François Berléand [ fʀãsˌwa bɛʀleˈã ] (born April 22, 1952 in Paris ) is a French actor .

Life

François Berléand was a member of the Parisian theater group Equipe du Splendid , which also included Gérard Jugnot , Thierry Lhermitte and Christian Clavier . The group performed in Parisian coffeehouses and cabaret theaters in the late 1970s and early 1980s and has appeared several times, mostly directed by Patrice Leconte, in films, for example in the series Les Bronzés . Berléand appeared in the films of the Equipe du Splendid in small roles.

The French director Pierre Jolivet often brings Berléand in front of the camera for his films. The collaboration began in 1986 on Jolivet's film Le complexe du kangourou and continued until the Irrésistible (Irresistible) announced for 2007 . In 2000 Berléand received for his performance in Jolivet's film Ma petite entreprise the César for Best Supporting Actor. There he plays a fraudulent insurance clerk. Even Louis Malle discovered Berléands talent and cast him for his two films Goodbye, Children and Milou in May in important supporting roles.

In the 1990s, Berléand was mainly seen in television productions, for example in 1995 in the war drama Les Milles - Trapped in the camp by director Sébastien Grall . Only his theater-loving assistant teacher Alain Denizet in the comedy Tableau d'honneur in 1992 attracted the attention of film critics. Since 2000 he has been mainly in the cinema again and soon became one of the well-known French actors. In 2002 he was cast as Inspector Tarconi for the international co-production The Transporter . In the sequels Transporter - The Mission (2005) and Transporter 3 (2008) he was also cast. In 2004, Berléand had his most cinema roles to date. Among other things, he was seen in Alexandra Leclère's feature film debut Two Unequal Sisters and in the successful movie The Children of Monsieur Mathieu . In 2003 Berléand was nominated for best leading actor for César for his performance in Mon idole and received another César nomination for The Children of Monsieur Mathieu in 2005 , this time for best supporting actor.

Berléand often plays schemers who are socially high and vain.
