Alain Corneau (born August 7, 1943 in Meung-sur-Loire , † August 30, 2010 in Paris ) was a French film director and screenwriter .

biography

After training as a musician, Corneau turned to film and attended the Institut des hautes études cinématographiques in Paris. In 1969 he started as assistant director for Costa-Gavras on the film The Confession . Several assistants to various directors followed. 1973 Corneau made his first film as a director with Tödlicher Markt (France société anonyme) . The film flopped; It wasn't until 1975 that he achieved a small success with the police thriller Police Python 357 starring Yves Montand and Simone Signoret . For his films in the following years he received César nominations. Corneau had his greatest film success with the historical drama The Seventh String , which won awards in the film and directing categories at the César Awards in 1992. His best-known directorial works also include Wahl der Waffen (1981), Fort Saganne (1985) and Mit Staunen und Zittern (2003).
