from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The French film school Institut des Hautes Études Cinématographiques ( IDHEC ) was founded in Paris at the end of 1943 by the avant-garde film director Marcel L'Herbier , the producer Pierre Gérin and the composer Yves Baudrier . Classes began in January 1944 under the direction of L'Herbier.

In addition to the French, numerous citizens of other countries were trained. The course consisted of a preparatory year and a two-year training in the fields of production, directing, camera, editing, etc. Among the IDHEC graduates are well-known directors such as Alain Resnais , Louis Malle , Jean-Jacques Annaud , Claude Miller , Claude Sautet , Volker Schlöndorff and Theo Angelopoulos , who left IDHEC after the first year of study.

In 1986, the IDHEC was incorporated into the newly founded La fémis ( École Nationale Supérieure des métiers de l'image et du son ).
