Patrice Leconte (born November 12, 1947 in Paris ) is a French director and screenwriter .

Life

Leconte grew up in Tours and worked from 1970 to 1995 as an author and illustrator of picture stories for Pilote magazine. In 1975 he made his directorial debut with a comic adaptation, in 1978 he landed a great public success in France with the satire Les Bronzés about a group of holidaymakers in a Club Méditerrané . Soon afterwards he established himself as an auteur filmmaker with the amour fou story The Engagement of Monsieur Hire (based on a novel by Georges Simenon ) . In 1997, Leconte's film Ridicule was nominated for an Oscar . His autobiography, entitled Je suis un imposteur , was published in 2000.
