Sabiner Berge, oil study by Ernst Fries from the time of German Romanticism

The Sabine Mountains (ital. Monti Sabini ) are the western edge of the Abruzzo Apennines , between the Tiber and Turano . It occupies the southwest of the Rieti province . It is a wooded and largely agriculturally used mountainous region consisting of weakly folded chalk and Jurassic limestone . While olive cultivation is predominant in the lower areas , the higher areas are covered by deciduous forest (beech and oak). The highest point is Monte Pellecchia (1365 meters). Heavily pouring springs in the mountain foot zone supply the Campagna Romana and Rome with water .

The Roman region of Latium was one of the great travel destinations of the 19th century, especially for romantic artists . Scenes from the Sabine or Albanian Mountains from this period are represented in large numbers in European museums.
