history
The community Spahnharrenstätte emerged from the places Spahn and Harrenstätte mentioned in the first millennium. Many prehistoric finds and remains of megalithic systems ( Poldenhünensteine ) or burial grounds ( Männige Berge ) are evidence of the prehistory and early history in the area of the two Hümmling communities. The common church building in 1866 on today's "Neustadt" formed the starting point for the amalgamation of the two communities, sealed in 1966.
Shortly afterwards, a joint school was built in Spahnharrenstätte, in which the children in grades 1 to 4 are still taught today. A sports facility and a gym add to the leisure facilities.

badges and flags
The coat of arms designed by the heraldist Ulf-Dietrich Korn and the flag of the municipality were approved by the Emsland district in 1984.
Blazon : “Divided by blue over gold, covered with two ears of wheat in confused colors with outwardly curved stalks, each with an outer curved leaf, in the upper part of the shield in front a silver plague cross , behind a floating silver stone grave over a silver boulder, in the raised one The base of the shield is a left-slanting blue oak leaf with an acorn. "
Reason: The two ears of corn express the rural character of Spahnharrenstätte. At the same time, the two grain stalks converging on each other symbolize the growing together of the two former farming settlements of Spahn and Harrenstätte. The oak leaf indicates the brinke lined with oaks, which have always been formative elements of the localities of Spahn and Harrenstätte. The plague cross is a memorial to a difficult time in the 17th century, when the population was struck by the plague and suffered badly. The stone grave shows the presence of prehistoric burial fields on Spahnharrenstätter soil and indicates the early settlement of the area in prehistoric times.
The flag is divided horizontally in a ratio of 1: 3: 1 blue-yellow-blue and topped with the coat of arms in the middle.
Economy and Infrastructure
Although many citizens are employed in the commercial and industrial sector, the townscape is predominantly characterized by traditional agriculture. The community will also endeavor to maintain this village structure in the future. This takes place primarily in the form of the restriction of building rights. So you have to have lived in Spahnharrenstätte for seven years before a house can be built. There are large areas of forest and moorland in and around Spahnharrenstätte for guests to relax.
