The full-time mayor of the combined municipality Werlte is Ludger Kewe (CDU). In the last mayoral election on May 25, 2014, he was elected unopposed with 85.9% of the vote. The turnout was 43.0%. Kewe took up his post on November 1, 2014, replacing the previous incumbent Werner Gerdes (CDU), who was no longer a candidate.
