coat of arms
The coat of arms was approved on July 14, 1978.
Blazon : In the blue escutcheon are two golden bishop's staffs with an open scroll to the outside as a St. Andrew's cross . Corner figures are two golden Greek crosses ( paw cross ) on the sides, above a golden grain sheaf and below a golden anchor .
The abbot's rods are taken from the coat of arms of the Werden Abbey. The two crosses stand for the two old parishes of the Samtgemeinde area in Lengerich and Bawinkel. The sheaf symbolizes the predominant agriculture in the entire municipality, especially the cultivation of grain. The anchor refers to the affiliation of the joint community to the former Lingen district and the former Lingen Lower Counties, both of which have coats of arms. The colors blue and gold are the coat of arms colors of the district of Lingen and the Counts of Tecklenburg-Lingen. The coat of arms was designed by the heraldist Ulf-Dietrich Korn from Münster.
