The Samtgemeinde Herzlake is a joint municipality in the Emsland district in Lower Saxony . Three municipalities have come together in it to carry out their administrative business. The administrative seat of the joint municipality is located in the municipality of Herzlake .

Geographical location

The integrated municipality of Herzlake is located in the Hasetal in the eastern part of the Emsland district in Lower Saxony .

The municipality is between 20 and 34  m above sea level. NN .

Neighboring communities

Neighboring communities in the west are the town of Haselünne , in the north the combined communities Sögel and Werlte , in the south the combined community Lengerich . In the east it borders on the city of Löningen in the district of Cloppenburg and on the joint municipality of Fürstenau in the district of Osnabrück .

history

With the municipality reform, which came into force in the old district of Meppen on March 1, 1974 , it emerged as a joint municipality of Herzlake from the municipalities of Dohren, Herzlake and Lähden, as well as Bookhof, Felsen, Neuenlande and Westrum. As early as 1963, the Dohren community was formed from the small and large Dohren communities. A year later the communities of Holte and Lastrup had merged to form the community of Holte-Lastrup and the communities of Herzlake and Bakerde to form the community of Herzlake. In 1971 the communities of Ahmsen, Herßum, Holte-Lastrup, Vinnen and Lähden joined forces on a voluntary basis to form the community of Lähden.

The Samtgemeinderat has 26 elected members. In addition, there is the directly elected full-time mayor of the municipality. Since the local elections on July 28, 2016, it has belonged to three parties or voter communities.

The next local elections will take place in 2021.

Joint mayor of the municipality

The full-time mayor of the entire municipality of Herzlake is Ludwig Pleus (independent). In the last mayoral election on May 25, 2014, he was re-elected as incumbent with 52.2% of the vote. The turnout was 61.4%. Pleus began his further term on November 1, 2014.
