history

Lahn is assumed that the first settlement took place before the turn of the millennium; several stone and hill graves indicate an ancient settlement. Lahn is mentioned for the first time in the free peasant charter from 1394 . It describes the separation of the Hümmlings from the territory of the Counts of Tecklenburg . Wording: "... Ludeke Srappers and Willeken söne to Löhn, ..."

In a directory of the feudal courtyards of the parish Werlte, which researchers date to the 11th century, three courtyards are already mentioned that can be assigned to Lahn. It is therefore not necessary to give precise details here. The first tax list with the names of the residents of Lahn dates from 1498/1499.

Lahn consisted of 13 full-grown farms, one of which was described as impoverished as early as the 16th century. Seven of these farms still operate full-time farming today and can look back on a farm history of up to 500 years.

Lahn has the typical shape of an old clustered village , although this structure has largely been preserved today.

The Lahner Schützenverein eV was founded in 1883 and celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2008.

Lahn special ammunition dump

From 1963 to 1992, the Lahn special ammunition depot for nuclear weapons, commonly known as the “Lahn nuclear weapons depot”, existed in the municipality . The 170 hectare site was north of the village of Lahn. The access to the Lahn nuclear weapons depot was the scene of several demonstrations by the peace movement , in particular by Pax Christi , in the 1980s .

coat of arms

Lahn coat of arms

Above a red shield base, with a silver stone grave consisting of a capstone and two supporting stones, there are three green oak leaves growing from a stem on a golden field.

The megalithic grave, which points to the prehistoric roots of today's municipality of Lahn, is located on the road to Hüven. The three oak leaves symbolize the possible meaning of the place name Lahn . The colors red and gold were chosen to represent the diverse connections to the Samtgemeinde Werlte. Furthermore, these were the colors of the old Corvey monastery , to which the Hümmling was subject to tithing in the Middle Ages.
