coat of arms

Blazon : “In the red field, rising from the golden wave shield base to the upper corners, a golden ear of wheat in front, a golden cattail in the back, a golden bell in between. The stalks are covered by a golden, arched bridge that hovers over the base of the corrugated shield. "

The coat of arms illustrates geographical, topographical and historical elements of the municipality of Niederlangen. The waves at the base of the shield symbolize the location on the Ems and the abundance of water with the backwaters reduced to ponds and the moor drainage ditches. Ears and cattails indicate that Niederlangen is predominantly agricultural and that around a third of the municipal area was moor, which was cultivated according to plan in the 2nd third of the 20th century. The Niederlangen-Siedlung district was established here in 1946. The bell is a reminder of the various functions of the former school bell, which today hangs in the bell tower in the center of Niederlangen. It serves as a prayer, death, emergency and fire bell and in a certain way has the character of a landmark. The bridge makes it clear that numerous bridges in the municipality play an important role as a connecting element of traffic. This applies both to the Emsbrücke, which connects Niederlangen with Lathen and the federal road 70, as well as to the bridges in the Ems lowland and the three bridges that connect the Altdorf with the Niederlangen settlement with the construction of the separating Emsland motorway. The colors red and gold are the colors of the coat of arms of the former Imperial Abbey of Corvey, which Niederlangen had with the "curia Lathen" since at least the 11th century. At the same time, it is the colors of the coat of arms of the former duchy of Münster, to whose Niederstift the place belonged from 1252 to the end of the old empire in 1803.

The coat of arms was designed by the heraldist Ulf-Dietrich Korn from Münster.
