action
Due to a youthful experience, Antoine decided to marry a hairdresser: at the age of twelve, a single, red-haired hairdresser exerts an erotic attraction on him. The father replied to a corresponding statement to his parents with a slap in the face, for which he apologized shortly afterwards.
As an adult, Antoine enters a hair salon one day and decides to marry the hairdresser. She actually approves the marriage proposal after three weeks of reflection. It is enough for Antoine to sit in the drawing room and watch his wife Mathilde. Both seem to have been satisfied with the situation for a long time. In order not to experience a possible end to her happiness, Mathilde, under the pretext of wanting to get yoghurt, rushes into a raging river during a storm and leaves Antoine a farewell letter.
At the end you see Antoine sitting in the drawing room and solving crossword puzzles. He washes the hair of an incoming customer, dances to Arabic music - as he has done during the entire film - and apparently has not yet accepted reality: “The hairdresser has to be here soon,” he says to the customer.
Reviews
"A formally impressive story of an amour fou , staged with an unusually light hand and gentle humor , staged as a commitment to fantasy and sensuality."
“… Ice cold, calculated, styled for beauty, only incentives, no stimuli. According to the script, Mathilde escapes with a jump into the water. The former commercial filmmaker Leconte is surprised that no film has turned out too long for him: he's wrong. "
