Culture and sights

Hasperde renaissance castle
  • A landmark of the place is Hasperde Castle , which was built in the 17th century in the Renaissance style and modified and expanded from 1883 to 1893. Today the castle houses a retirement home and is surrounded by a park with botanical features.
  • In the forest behind the castle is the mausoleum , which was built by the Hanoverian architect August Lingemann from 1881–1884 on behalf of the castle owner Otto Freiherr von Hake .
  • In 1896, Bishop Wilhelm complied with the request of the Baroness von Hake , who asked him to support the Catholic upbringing of her children, but at the same time also for the pastoral care of the Catholics who were now living here . The chaplain of Peine, Leopold Scharla, was appointed chaplain of Hasperde Castle with effect from May 1, 1896. A chapel was set up in Hasperde Castle. This chapel became a place of worship and the center of the new mission station , the first and only one in the wide area between Hanover and Hameln. Under canon law it received the status of a chaplain and was subordinate to the parish of St. Clemens in Hanover. On May 3, 1896, Chaplain Scharla celebrated the first Holy Mass in this chapel. As a place of worship and mission station, the chapel was the focal point for Catholics between Hanover and Hameln.
  • In addition to the castle, there is also the manor house of the Count Adelmann von Adelmannsfelden family , which is also surrounded by a park.
