Town view

Beber is a district of Bad Münder am Deister in the Hameln-Pyrmont district , Lower Saxony . It is located 6 km northwest of the town center of Bad Münder.

geography

Beber is located in the northern area of the city of Bad Münder am Deister , in the Weserbergland . In the north the place borders on the district of Schaumburg , in the north-east lies the place Rohrsen , in the south Bakede and in the west the wooded mountain range of the Süntel extends .

history

The first written mention of Bebers comes from the year 1033. On July 10, 1033, Emperor Konrad II turned a number of possessions to the 15th Bishop of Minden , Sigebert , including “Bedebure”. Bedebure is the old name of Beber and has the meaning of "house of prayer". But it is likely that there were settlements there before 1033.

In 1499 the St. Magnus Church was built. At the same place, however, there was already a church, which was replaced by today's St. Magnus Church because it was in disrepair. Another indication of the strong reference to the church in Beber is that until 1848 the administration of the Beber forests was the responsibility of the local pastors.

In the Deister-Süntel-Tal , the furniture industry was one of the main employers in the region until the middle of the 20th century. There were two larger chair factories in Beber: the "August Werhahn chair factory", which produced until 1977, and "L. Westphal & Sohn ”, who built chairs until 1967.

The village of Beber was united on January 1, 1973 in the course of the regional reform as one of 16 districts to the municipality of Bad Münder.

politics

Elke Osterkamp (CDU) is the local mayor.

Beber has a joint local council with the neighboring town of Rohrsen.

  • At the exit of Beber in the direction of Rohrsen, the multi-purpose hall is a kind of center of community life for both places. In the 1960s, the first school building was built, which now houses a kindergarten and the local association of the German Red Cross . In 1977 a new sports field was built behind the building . A major goal was achieved when, on December 31, 1999, the multi-purpose hall, which was built with a great deal of personal contribution, was inaugurated with a New Year's Eve party. The hall connects directly to the old school building. In addition, a meeting place was built, which serves the residents as a meeting point for celebrations or a nice get-together.
