action
Victor remembers a summer in 1958 in the light of a fire. In order not to be drafted into the Algerian war, he has taken a room in a boarding house on Lake Geneva . There he met the young woman Yvonne.
He made the acquaintance of René Meinthe through Yvonne. The relationship between René and Yvonne is not made clear to the viewer. Victor wants to marry Yvonne, but she disappears after visiting her uncle. In winter he meets René in a bar and he invites him for a drive. René lets him get out and drives his car to his death. The car explodes and you can see Victor in the light of the fire. Fleeting memories remain.
Reviews
According to Positif , the film was “spurned by the audience and put down by the critics”. Leconte regretted: “This is a film that obviously almost nobody liked. It was judged to be superficial, while it dealt with superficiality. ”The film-dienst found:“ More interested in moods than in the plot, the atmospheric film with its idiosyncratic narrative rhythm creates a flair of elegant noblesse with a dash of morbidity and eroticism; but occasionally he gets lost in too much pathos and beauty.
