Die Strandflitzer (original title: Les Bronzés ) is a French film released on November 22, 1978, which sees itself as a parody of the then newly created club vacation à la Club Méditerranée . It was directed by Patrice Leconte, who, like the leading actors Christian Clavier, Michel Blanc, Thierry Lhermite, Marie-Anne Chazel, Gérard Jugnot and Josiane Balasko, was part of the L'Equipe du Splendid theater group . They first wrote and played the café theater piece "Amours, Coquillages et Crustacés", from which the film later developed and based on their three years of activity as an animator at Club Méditerranée.
In France, the film was a success with 2.3 million cinema tickets sold, helped the actors achieve their breakthrough and still enjoys cult status today, even after 30 years the dialogues are known by heart to many French.
The film was followed by two sequels, also directed by Patrice Leconte: 1979 Sun, Sex and Snow Flurry and 2006 Les Bronzés 3 - Amis pour la vie .
An alternate title is Sun, Sex and Beach Flurry .
action
Gigi, Jerome, Christiane, Jean-Claude, and Bernard are tourists who arrive at a club hotel on the Ivory Coast at the same time to go on vacation. Bernard meets his wife Nathalie, who has been there for a week. When they arrive, the newcomers are greeted by head animator Popeye and his colleagues Bobo and Bourseault. Under the pretext of a group photo, they stand in a row and are then surprisingly doused with buckets of water by the animators. The film follows those fun screw-ups, mutual pranks and relationship boxes of the group and Popeye's attempt to seduce every woman.
The characters
- Bernard Morin meets at the club with his wife Nathalie ( Josiane Balasko ), who has already arrived the week before. An open competition develops between the two of them over who will manage to have more affairs during their stay.
- Jean-Claude Dusse is on vacation as a bachelor in the club with the aim of finding a partner,
- Jerôme is a doctor. Feeling bothered by everything, he still doesn't waste a minute trying not to hit every woman.
- Gigi is a young, somewhat naive woman looking for great love
- Christiane is a country beautician who wants to get to know someone.
- Popeye works as an entertainer in the club all year round and never leaves it. Although he is used to catching women, there are moments when he doubts himself.
- Bourseault is an entertainer and tries as a comedian to make the group laugh. The film ends badly for him and he is stung by a ray.
- Bobo , another entertainer, is really called Georges Pelletier.
- Marcus is the manager of the club facility.
- Miguel Weissmuller is another animator and gives painting lessons.
- Gilbert is a vacationer who doesn't make it clear why he came to the club: he's constantly upset and never having fun.
criticism
The lexicon of international films saw an "unimaginative and not always tasteful attempt at a parody of mass tourism."
