Josiane Balasko
Josiane Balasko (* 15. April 1950 as Josiane Balasković in Paris ) is a French actress , director and screenwriter .
Life
Josiane Balasko was born in 1950 to Croatian-Jewish parents in Paris. She tried drawing and writing before completing classical acting training with Tania Balachova. In the 1970s she joined the acting company Le Splendid, which also included Marie-Anne Chazel , Christian Clavier and Thierry Lhermitte , and performed in Parisian cafes . In 1973 she was next to other Splendid members in the film comedy Das Jahr Null Eins on the screen for the first time. They also played together in Patrice Lecontes comedy Die Strandflitzer , with which Balasko made her breakthrough in France in 1978. The sequel Sun, Sex and Snow Flurry followed a year later , in which Balasko, like the predecessor, was also involved in the script.
For her portrayal of a secretary in Bertrand Blier's Too Beautiful for You , she received her first nomination for a César in the category Best Actress in 1990 . She continued to work for the theater and began writing her own plays. She directed both theater and film. The first feature film under her direction was the comedy Sac de noeuds, published in 1985, in which she also played a leading role alongside Isabelle Huppert . But it wasn't until ten years later that she was able to establish herself as a filmmaker with the triangular comedy A Woman for Two (1995). The film, in which Balasko lives as a lesbian plumber in a ménage á trois with a housewife and her husband, convinced critics and audiences alike; he was nominated for a César for best film. Balasko, who was also nominated in the Best Director category, was finally awarded a César and the Prix Lumières for the screenplay .
Her daughter Marilou Berry is also an actress.
